Mother and Child is a 1976 R.C. Gorman papercast from the gallery’s collection. The papercast process casts the artist’s imagery in layered paper relief, catching light along every contour in a way flat prints cannot.
Like the rest of the gallery’s holdings, this work reflects Gorman’s devotion to the Native American women and Southwest landscapes that made his name. Papercasts show to advantage under raking light, where the layered relief throws soft shadows across the surface. It suits collections focused on papercast work by R.C. Gorman and makes a grounded acquisition for collectors of Southwestern art and Native American fine art.
